The Journey to “The Journey Home”

During some Questing time last fall and this winter, I reflected on my own spiritual experiences that brought me to where I stand now. I recognized that my journey did not start by jumping straight into a Vision Quest.

Although – standing where I am now – I wish I had taken my first Quest by age 20, my mindset at that age was not fertile ground for such an undertaking. For one thing, I was agnostic. In my early 20s, as a college student, I believed science could explain everything. Just gives us the One Miracle of the Big Bang and science can explain everything else, lol.

That hard belief in the physical began to wither after my older brother convinced me to take the “Standard” class at Tom Brown, Jr.’s, Tracker School. That class, in 1988, was almost entirely focused on “survival skills” such as shelter building, fire making, wild edibles, and much more (an absolutely amazing class!).

But Tom spent part of one evening talking about “Movement”. Ostensibly, the context regarded hunting (including plants) and how to move around the landscape in harmony.

Tom, however, was really speaking of awareness and the benefits of maximizing our senses including those beyond the physical. The way Tom relayed this information was mesmerizing. That lecture during the Standard class became my doorway to explicitly start my spiritual awakening, even if I had no idea of that at the time (thank you, Tom!).

One year later I returned to take Tom’s Advanced Standard class. Again, this class was focused on the physical skills of survival but one evening meeting honed on topics beyond the flesh. I recall my absolute excitement as Tom began to speak that night. “There’s no where else to get this information!“, I thought.

My rigid beliefs in a physical-only world were much less resolute by the time I took a series of Philosophy classes from Tom starting in 1991. In those classes, I had profound experiences that demonstrated beyond personal doubt that there is MUCH more happening than our physical senses tell us.

From that new place of understanding, I took my first Vision Quest with Bear, Malcolm, and Chuck in 1993. That experience really became the foundation for so many things in my life: family, vocation, and guiding Vision Quests, and more.

The point is, I had to work my way to that first Quest. Now, as a trained and experienced Quest Protector, I have had Questers come to my retreats, jump right into a four day Vision Quest as an “apparent” first step on their spiritual path. But my sense is many people are more like myself, i.e., they need certain information and experience before committing to the Quest.

To that end, I am launching a new program, “The Journey Home”. I intend to share some of the information that got me started. Perhaps more importantly, I intend to facilitate experiences that will begin to break down your attachment to the physical or, at least, open you to the worlds beyond the flesh.

I will be offering a free Zoom session (probably two or three repeating dates of about one hour each) to introduce some of concepts of human consciousness and awareness that Tom shared with me in 1988. Perhaps you will be inspired to research further on your own.

And perhaps you will be inspired to join me for the subsequent in-person retreat wherein I will share more deeply and, especially, intend to guide you to your own experience of the realms beyond the physical.

It’s past time for us humans to release our full attention on the physical, which is such a very small part of ourselves and of Creation. To successfully navigate this time of transition, we need to anchor into the deeper, more powerful parts of ourselves. A new world is waiting to be born. We cannot get there until we remember our True Nature.

I hope you will join me for the webinars and, if it calls to you, the in-person retreat.

Blessings,

Matt
